Activate Jamendo and Magnatune on Rhythmbox

Rhythmbox has a pretty neat feature inbuilt into it. It has plugins for Jamendo and Magnatune. These sites offer free legal downloads of music from independent artists. And trust me, some of the music is breathtaking!

So how do you activate Jamendo and Magnatune on your Rhythmbox?

Go to Edit and then Plugins option on your Rhythmbox. Then simply activate Jamendo and Magnatune:

Thats it. Now simply click on the Jamendo and Magnatune options on the side panel of your Rhythmbox and the playlists will start loading. Simply double click on the track to listen to it. And right click on it to download the track/album, get artist info, donate etc.

It should work fine. Just or the record, Jamendo and magnatune does take quite sometime to load. so you will have to be patient once you click on that tab. once you activate jamendo or magnatune their links will be visible in the side panel (as shown in the pic). simply click on it to load. you can follow the progress from the progress bar at the bottom of rhythmbox.

if all else fails reinstall Rhythmbox and try again.

The jamendo and magnatude were part of a few distributions. I’ve been trying for a couple of days to activate them on Rhythmbox and banshee without success. Linux mint 13 If you want jamendo the easy way, with no user input necessary, install mint 9 and open your Rhythmbox, it’ll be already loaded on the left.
